Petrol, Diesel Prices Shoot Up Again In Pakistan, Check Latest Today's Rates
The Pakistani government has announced an immediate increase in fuel prices. The price of high-speed diesel has gone up by PKR 2.96 per litre, while petrol has seen a rise of 56 paisas per litre. This adjustment reflects ongoing changes in the international market and local economic conditions, according to media reports.
With the new rates, petrol is now priced at PKR 252.66 per litre, and high-speed diesel costs PKR 258.34 per litre. This marks the second time in a month that fuel prices have been increased. The government has not reduced the petroleum levy, which has significantly contributed to these rising costs.

Political Reactions
Opposition parties in Pakistan have expressed strong disapproval of the government's decision to raise fuel prices. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), along with Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), have criticised this move. They argue that it will further burden citizens already struggling with inflation.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami, condemned the price hike as "shameful." He criticised the government for failing to provide relief to both the general public and the industrial sector. Naeem pointed out that while global prices are falling, Pakistan is experiencing increases.
Economic Challenges
The rise in petroleum prices over the past month and a half totals PKR 12.14 per litre. In November, opposition parties heavily criticised these increases, highlighting their impact on inflation-hit citizens. Geo News reported that these decisions have sparked widespread dissatisfaction among political leaders.
Naeem also urged the government not to penalise citizens for issues related to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). The national carrier is undergoing privatisation due to inefficiencies and financial losses impacting Pakistan's economy.
