Health Authorities on High Alert

"This is the fifth mpox case reported this year in the country and the fourth since WHO declared mpox a global health emergency," said Federal Director General of Health Dr Shabana Saleem on Sunday. She emphasized that Peshawar's situation demands urgent attention due to its potential as an epicentre for mpox cases.

Authorities have intensified measures to contain the virus, implementing stringent screening protocols at all airports. "We are not taking any chances. Effective screening systems are operational across the country," Saleem assured, highlighting the government's dedication to public health safety.

Coordinated Efforts and Public Vigilance

Federal and provincial health officials are working closely to monitor and respond to the situation promptly. "We are working round the clock to ensure all preventive measures are in place and effective," added Dr Shabana Saleem. The Ministry of Health remains vigilant and prepared to act swiftly against any developments.

The rise in mpox cases in Peshawar has alarmed health experts and the public. Calls for increased awareness and stricter travel guidelines have been made, according to Geo News. The federal director general of health urged people to stay vigilant and follow health advisories, especially those returning from high-risk areas.

"Public cooperation is crucial in preventing the spread of mpox," she warned. "Together, we can curb this virus before it takes a firmer hold."

The re-emergence of mpox in Peshawar has highlighted the need for vigilance among travellers from the Gulf region. All recent cases have involved individuals with a travel history to this area, prompting authorities to double their efforts in preventing further spread.

In response to these developments, stringent screening protocols have been enforced at all airports across Pakistan. This measure aims to identify and isolate potential carriers of the virus promptly.

The government’s commitment to safeguarding public health is evident through these enhanced measures. Continuous monitoring by health officials ensures that necessary steps are taken without delay.

The situation in Peshawar underscores the importance of public cooperation in adhering to health advisories and guidelines issued by authorities. Compliance with these measures is essential in curbing the spread of mpox effectively.
