Florida Deputy Paul Robitaille Dies by Suicide Outside Sheriffs Office
Paul Robitaille, a 56-year-old deputy with the Highlands County Sheriffs Office in Sebring, Florida, died by suicide outside the agencys headquarters on Wednesday, January 31, 2023. Robitaille, who had been with the agency since March 2007, gave no prior indication of any problems and was described as a great employee with a positive attitude. The sheriff, Paul Blackman, expressed shock and grief over the incident and urged anyone struggling with mental health issues to seek help.
A sheriff's deputy in central Florida took his own life outside the agency's headquarters on Wednesday, January 31, according to officials. The Highlands County Sheriff's Office identified the deceased as Paul Robitaille, a 56-year-old detention deputy who had been with the agency since March 2007.

Tragic Turn of Events
Investigators revealed that Robitaille had requested a break from his supervisor around 10 am on Wednesday. He briefly spoke with another deputy outside the courthouse before being found deceased a short distance away. Tragically, Robitaille had used his service weapon to end his life.

Sheriff Blackman emphasized that Robitaille had not displayed any signs of distress or mental health struggles prior to the incident.
