Reports suggest that unidentified gunmen, who have recently been linked to the killings of several terrorists in Pakistan, ambushed Mir as he was leaving a mosque in Turbat after offering prayers.

The attackers fired multiple rounds at him from point-blank range, and although he was rushed to hospital, he succumbed to his injuries, according to Dawn.

Who Was Mufti Shah Mir?

Mir was an arms and human trafficker, operating under the guise of a scholar, and was affiliated with the fundamentalist party Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI). He also had strong ties to the ISI, Pakistan's intelligence agency.

According to reports, Mir frequently visited terrorist camps in Pakistan and assisted militants in their infiltration attempts across the Indian border.

As reported by The Times of India, Mir played a pivotal role in the abduction and custodial killings of several Baloch youths. He was also instrumental in spreading religious extremism across Balochistan.
