Fake News Alert: Pak Website Says Army Shot Down Indian Rafale Jets, But Uses Minister's Comment On Pulwama!

Pakistan media is making false claims of shooting down Indian jets as New Delhi launched airstrike on nine locations in the JeM headquarters in Bahawalpur and the LeT's in Muridke in Pakistan Punjab.

While the Indian government has clarified that its operations did not target the Pakistani military, Pakistani media, particularly Samaa TV, reported that Indian Rafale fighter jets were shot down near Ahmedpur East in Bahawalpur. The channel cited unnamed "security sources" for its assertion.

"The Pakistan Army has reportedly downed a Rafale jet and another Indian fighter aircraft near Ahmedpur East, as hostilities between the two nuclear-armed countries intensify," the report claimed.

The Dassault Rafale is a highly advanced French-made twin-engine multirole combat aircraft, capable of carrying out a wide range of missions including air superiority, ground support, deep strike, and nuclear deterrence. The Indian Air Force (IAF) inducted the Rafale to bolster its strategic capabilities, making the claim of its destruction particularly striking - and, according to experts, implausible without credible evidence.

Notably, the report confusingly attributes remarks by Pakistan's Information Minister, Atta Tarar, regarding the 2019 Pulwama attack to the current scenario. The minister is quoted as saying:

"Pakistan's security sources have claimed that a Rafale fighter jet and another fighter jet belonging to the Indian Air Force were shot down near Ahmedpur East in Bahawalpur amid rapidly intensifying hostilities between the two nuclear-armed neighbors," the report read.

"In a very short span of time, we brought down enemy aircraft. Our hands are clean in the Pulwama incident," Tarar stated during a press briefing. "Pulwama lies nearly 200 kilometers from the Pakistan border. Pakistan is actively fighting the war against terrorism."

However, these comments appear unrelated to the present context and were originally made in reference to the Pulwama suicide bombing that took place five years ago. The reuse of an old statement without context raises questions about the credibility and intent of the report.
