28 killed in suicide blast near Quetta polling station; ISIS claims responsibility

Balochistan, July 25: Twenty-eight people have been killed after a bomb attack near eastern bypass in Balochistan's Quetta on Wednesday. Rescue sources said the explosion occurred near a police mobile. Police in Quetta have said they fear the death toll could be more than 30.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for an explosion near a polling station in Quetta, Pakistan, on Wednesday, according to the group's Amaq news agency.

Mwanwhile, Pakistan's 11th general election to elect a new prime minister in the second democratic transition of power in the nation's 70-year chequered history has began amid tight security on Wednesday.

Polling began at 8 am and will conclude, without any break, at 6PM across the country's 85,307 polling stations, of which 17,007 have been declared "highly sensitive".

As many as 12,570 candidates are contesting for a total of 849 seats of national and provincial assemblies in the general election.
