Pakistan Issues Strong Protest Over Afghan Diplomats Remaining Seated During National Anthem
Pakistan has expressed a strong objection to Afghanistan over an incident involving Afghan diplomats. The diplomats remained seated during Pakistan's national anthem at an event, which Pakistan views as disrespectful. According to Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this act violates diplomatic norms.

The event took place in Peshawar and was attended by Afghan Consul General Mohibullah Shakir and his deputy. They were invited by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for the 12th Rabi ul Awal celebration, marking the birthday of Prophet Muhammad. Despite the invitation, the Afghan diplomats did not stand during the anthem.
Afghan Consulate's Clarification on National Anthem Incident
The Afghan Consulate in Peshawar issued a statement to clarify their stance. They stated there was no intention to disrespect Pakistan's national anthem. The spokesman explained that the presence of music in the anthem was the reason for not standing, as Afghanistan has banned its own anthem due to music.
The spokesman further elaborated that had the anthem been played without music, the diplomats would have stood with hands on their chests. This explanation aimed to address concerns about any perceived disrespect towards Pakistan.
Mumtaz Zahra Baloch emphasized that Pakistan is communicating its protest to Afghan authorities in both Islamabad and Kabul. She described the actions of the Acting Consul General of Afghanistan as reprehensible and against diplomatic etiquette.
Pakistan's response underscores the importance it places on diplomatic protocols and respect for national symbols. The incident highlights potential cultural differences regarding music in national anthems between the two countries.
