Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif to Attend Key Summits in Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan This November
Pakistan's Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, is set to embark on a crucial diplomatic journey this November. He will attend two major international summits in Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan. These gatherings will address pressing issues related to conflict and climate change. The announcement was made on Thursday.

Sharif's first destination is Saudi Arabia, where he will participate in the second Joint Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh on 11 November. The summit, organised by the Saudi government, aims to discuss the ongoing crisis in West Asia. A preparatory meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) is scheduled for 10 November. Pakistan will be represented by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
Focus on Regional Alliances
During the summit, Prime Minister Sharif plans to reaffirm Pakistan's steadfast support for Palestine. He will advocate for an end to violence in Gaza, call for an immediate ceasefire, and urge international protection for Palestinian civilians. Additionally, Sharif will engage in strategic dialogues with leaders from other Arab League and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation member states to strengthen bilateral relations and regional alliances.
After his visit to Saudi Arabia, Sharif will travel to Baku, Azerbaijan. There, he will participate in the "World Leaders’ Climate Action Summit" on 12-13 November. This summit is a significant event of the 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29). Deputy Prime Minister Dar and other senior officials will accompany him.
Addressing Climate Challenges
At COP29, Sharif will address critical issues concerning climate action. His focus will be on climate justice, equity, and shared responsibilities. The conference comes at a time when millions globally, including those in Pakistan, are experiencing severe impacts of climate change.
The participation of Pakistan's leadership in these summits underscores the country's commitment to addressing both regional conflicts and global environmental challenges. By engaging with international leaders, Pakistan aims to contribute positively to solutions that promote peace and sustainability.
