Pakistan: Passenger Train Derails In Punjab, 1 Dead, Many Injured

A routine journey on Pakistan's Awam Express turned tragic on Sunday when the passenger train derailed in Lodhran district, leaving behind scenes of panic and grief. The train, traveling from Peshawar to Karachi, came off the tracks nearly 400 km from Lahore, jolting four of its coaches.

"One passenger lost his life, and 25 others were injured. Three of them are battling for survival," Deputy Commissioner Lubna Nazir told reporters. Within minutes, rescue teams rushed to the remote site, ferrying the injured to hospitals while authorities began clearing the mangled coaches. By late evening, the immediate rescue work was over, and railway officials had started efforts to restore the disrupted track.

For Punjab, however, this is not an isolated incident-it is the third derailment this month alone. Just days ago, the Musa Pak Express derailed at Raiwind, injuring five passengers. Earlier in August, the Islamabad Express suffered a similar fate near Lahore, with 10 of its coaches toppling and nearly 30 people hurt.

The string of mishaps has left passengers wary and experts questioning the condition of Pakistan's aging railway network. What should have been a safe passage across the heart of the country is increasingly becoming a gamble with safety.
