Islamabad, Dec 28: Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister, Anwaarul Haq Kakar, announced a ban on New Year celebrations in the country as a gesture of solidarity with the people of Gaza. In a brief address to the nation, Kakar urged citizens to show support for the Palestinians and display sobriety and humility during the New Year.
Expressing Solidarity with Palestine
Kakar emphasized the need to stand united with the Palestinian people during their time of crisis. He highlighted the alarming situation in Palestine, where over 21,000 Palestinians have lost their lives due to Israeli violence, including approximately 9,000 children since the commencement of the Israeli bombardment on October 7. The Prime Minister expressed deep anguish over the massacre of innocent children and the genocide of unarmed Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
Pakistan's Humanitarian Efforts
Pakistan has demonstrated its commitment to supporting Palestine by dispatching two aid packages and preparing a third one. The country is actively engaged in discussions with Jordan and Egypt to ensure timely aid delivery and facilitate the evacuation of injured individuals from Gaza.
Highlighting the Palestinian Cause
Kakar reaffirmed Pakistan's dedication to raising awareness about the plight of the Palestinian people on various global platforms. He pledged to continue these efforts in the future to bring an end to the bloodshed and injustice perpetrated by Israel.
Influence of Islamic Groups
Traditionally, New Year celebrations in Pakistan have been relatively subdued due to the influence of Islamic groups. These groups often employ various methods, including the use of force, to discourage festivities.
Pakistan's decision to ban New Year celebrations reflects the country's solidarity with the people of Gaza and its commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause. As the nation grapples with the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine, it stands united in its efforts to bring about peace and justice for the Palestinian people.
