Pakistan: LeT Terrorist Amir Hamza, Close Aide Of Hafiz Saeed, Injured

Co-founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and a wanted terrorist, Amir Hamza, met with an accident in Pakistan leading to injuries, said reports. Known for his close ties with LeT chief Hafiz Saeed, Hamza is among 17 individuals who established the banned terror outfit. According to media reports, Amir Hamza's accident was described as a 'mysterious fall,' sparking interest and concern given Hamza's prominent role within LeT and his historical involvement in conflicts such as the Afghanistan war against the USSR.

Hamza's contributions to LeT extend beyond his foundational role. As a member of LeT's central advisory committee, he has been instrumental in fostering connections with other militant groups under the leadership of Hafeez Saeed. His leadership roles within the organization have been diverse, including leading an LeT-associated charity and serving on the board of an LeT university trust previously managed by Saeed. These positions highlight Hamza's influence and the breadth of his involvement in the organization's operations.

According to a statement from the US Department of Treasury in August 2012, Hamza's activities for LeT have encompassed a range of responsibilities. From mid-2010, he was engaged in disseminating propaganda, acting as the editor of LeT's weekly newspaper, and contributing to the group's publication by mid-2011. His strategic role within LeT also saw him lead the "special campaigns" department as of mid-2009, and in mid-2010, he was among three LeT leaders negotiating the release of detained members of the outfit. This illustrates the depth of Hamza's involvement in both the operational and ideological aspects of LeT.

The circumstances surrounding Hamza's accident remain unclear, but his significant position within LeT and his storied past as a combatant in Afghanistan prior to joining forces with Hafeez Saeed and others underscore the potential implications of his injury. His extensive involvement in LeT's advisory, operational, and propaganda activities marks him as a key figure within the organization.
