Pakistan Government Implements Measures to Prevent Terrorists from Using Social Media Platforms

The Pakistan government has announced plans to tackle the presence of banned terrorist organisations on social media. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that the government, in partnership with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), will work to block these groups' accounts. Additionally, provinces are tasked with developing strategies to prevent the use of illegal SIM cards.

Pakistan Government Acts Against Terrorists on Social Media

Naqvi condemned recent terrorist attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, describing them as deeply regrettable. He emphasised enhancing the capabilities of Counter Terrorism Forces (CTFs) in these regions through full cooperation. Strengthening law enforcement agencies like the police and Frontier Constabulary is a priority to bolster security.

Focus on Law Enforcement and Technology

Naqvi highlighted the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders to improve law and order. He mentioned that police forces across provinces would be equipped with modern technology to boost their operational effectiveness. The federal government will address the urgent needs of law enforcement agencies promptly.

All institutions have been instructed to submit reports on necessary resources to the Ministry of Interior within seven days. This move aims to ensure that law enforcement agencies receive the support they need to function effectively.

NACTA's Role and Provincial Collaboration

The National Counter-terrorism Authority (NACTA) is set to play a pivotal role in combating terrorism, with reforms underway to restore its original mandate. The meeting decided to enhance collaboration between NACTA and provincial authorities, establishing a National Fusion Centre for improved coordination.

Security measures for Chinese nationals in Pakistan were also reviewed during the meeting. Naqvi directed that a comprehensive security plan for protecting Chinese citizens be fully implemented, ensuring their safety amidst ongoing threats.

The government's commitment to counter-terrorism efforts reflects a comprehensive approach involving technological advancements, inter-agency cooperation, and prioritising law enforcement needs. These steps aim to create a safer environment for all residents and foreign nationals in Pakistan.
