Pakistan Doctor Pauses Surgery To Have Sex With Nurse In UK Hospital

A Pakistani doctor had admitted to having taken a break to have sex with a nurse midway through a surgery.

In a report by the BBC and The Daily Mail, a medical tribunal heard that a doctor left a patient on an operating table under anaesthetic to have sex with the nurse, referred to Nurse C.

Dr. Suhail Anjum, 44, and an unnamed nurse were discovered in a "compromising position" by a colleague at Tameside Hospital in Greater Manchester in September 2023. According to the London-based tabloid, Dr. Anjum was seen tying the cord of his trousers, while the nurse was reportedly found with her trousers around her knees and her underwear on display.

Midway through the operation, Dr. Anjum, a consultant anaesthetist, had told a colleague he needed a "comfort break" and asked them to monitor the male patient. Instead, he went to another operating theater where the incident occurred. When another nurse entered the room, she was shocked the doctor and nurse in a "compromising position, according to Andrew Molloy, representing the General Medical Council (GMC).

Dr. Anjum was gone for about eight minutes.

While the patient was not harmed, the nurse who discovered them reported the incident to her manager. However, Dr. Anjum has confessed to his sexual activity, calling his behavior "shameful" and acknowledged that his actions had the "potential to put his patient at risk."

"It was quite shameful, to say the least. I only have myself to blame," Daily Mail quoted him as saying. He added, "I offer my sincere apologies to everyone involved and I want the opportunity to put this right."

However, he claimed that it happened during a "stressful time" for his family as he was not able to connect with his wife following the premature birth of his youngest daughter.

A 2004 graduate of the University of Health Sciences in Lahore, Dr. Anjum has expressed a desire to return to the UK to continue his medical career.
