Pakistan Refuses to Disclose Consular Access Details for Indians Accused of Espionage

Pakistan has recently been in the spotlight for granting consular access to two Indian nationals, Feroze Ahmad Lone and Noor Muhammad Wani, who were arrested in 2020 on espionage charges in Gilgit-Baltistan. Despite the gravity of the accusations, details surrounding the consular visits remain scarce, as Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, refrained from divulging specifics during a weekly briefing. Baloch confirmed that consular access for the Indian High Commission to its nationals is arranged "from time to time," yet specifics about these occurrences are kept under wraps.

The issue came to light earlier this week when The Express Tribune reported that Pakistani authorities had allowed consular access to India, enabling a meeting with Lone and Wani. Present at this meeting were also officers from Pakistan's Interior Ministry, alongside a three-member delegation from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.
