Pakistan: Christian couple killed for 'desecrating' holy Quran, violating Blasphemy law

Islamabad, Nov 4: In yet another case of violating its draconian-blasphemy law, a Christian couple lost their lives for desecrating the holy book Quran, the police said on Tuesday.

According to reports, a Pakistani Christian couple was beaten to death and burnt alive by an angry mob near a brick kiln in Chak 69 village near the town of Kot Radha Kishan, 60 kms away from Lahore, where they were working as labourers from last 3-4 years.

The slain married couple was identified Shehzad Masih and Shama and were aged between 30 and 35 years and they hailed from Clarkabad.

A report published in Pakistan Today said that the couple had three children and Shama was pregnant with fourth baby.

The report also said that a co-worker of the couple saw some burnt pages of Quran and alerted other people. Then, an enraged mob of around 3,000-4,000 people attacked the couple and tortured them to death.

Meanwhile, as per an AFP report, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has constituted a three-member committee to lauch the investigation into the killings and also ordered police to enhance the security at Christian neighbourhoods in the province.
