Pak Minister's Bizarre Remark, Says 'India United Only Under Aurangzeb'

Pakistan's Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, has stirred debate with remarks about India's historical unity, asserting that the country was united only under Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Historians, however, note that India's political unity predates Aurangzeb, with the Maurya Empire, as well as rulers like Samudragupta and Harshavardhana, achieving significant consolidation across the subcontinent.

Asif made the remarks during an interview with Samaa TV, where he also raised the possibility of war with India. His statements follow recent warnings from Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, who cautioned Pakistan against supporting terrorism, asserting that India is prepared to respond decisively if provoked.

While Aurangzeb's reign saw territorial expansion, it was also marked by persistent conflicts, contrasting with the relative stability under rulers like Akbar. Since gaining independence, India has maintained over seven decades of democratic governance, further challenging Asif's historical claims.

This is not the first time Khawaja Asif has made controversial statements. He previously suggested storing floodwater in containers to address Pakistan's flooding, describing the situation as a "blessing." Additionally, during Operation Sindoor 1.0, he falsely claimed Indian jets were downed based on social media reports, a claim refuted during a CNN interview.

Experts warn that statements like these can escalate already tense relations between India and Pakistan. Asif himself acknowledged the risks of conflict but claimed Pakistan could achieve positive outcomes if war occurred, while emphasizing that escalation is not desired.
