Pak HC Extends Imran Khan's Bail In Two Cases Until June 8

A Pakistan high court on Tuesday extended the bail of former prime minister Imran Khan in two cases related to inciting violence and sedition until June 8.

During the hearing before a single bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), the cases involving allegations against top officers of state institutions and the physical altercation involving Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Mohsin Ranjha by Khan's supporters were discussed.

After listening to the arguments presented by the lawyers, Chief Justice Aamer Farooq granted an extension of bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan until June 8. Additionally, the court exempted the former prime minister from appearing in court on that day.

Justice Farooq also inquired about the registration of a first information report (FIR) related to Khan's arrest that occurred on the court's premises. The attorney general responded that a verdict from the Supreme Court regarding the matter is pending.

Last week, the IHC had granted bail to Imran Khan, aged 70, preventing authorities from arresting him in all cases registered after May 9. The court instructed him to seek further relief from the Lahore High Court on May 15.

Since his removal from power in April of the previous year, Khan has been implicated in numerous cases. He maintains that all the cases are politically motivated.

Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court (LHC) reserved its verdict on Khan's petition seeking bail in all cases registered against him in Punjab province following his arrest in the Al Qadir Trust case, which led to violent protests by his supporters.

In the Al Qadir Trust case, where the National Accountability Bureau arrested the former cricketer-turned-politician on May 9, the IHC granted him pre-arrest bail for a period of two weeks.

The Supreme Court had declared Khan's arrest from the IHC premises illegal and referred the matter to the IHC for further proceedings.

Imran Khan was removed from power in April of the previous year after losing a no-confidence vote. He alleged that his ousting was part of a US-led conspiracy aimed at him due to his independent foreign policy decisions concerning Russia, China, and Afghanistan.
