OpenAI Reinstates Founder Sam Altman As CEO

OpenAI has officially announced via a tweet that Sam Altman will resume his role as CEO, marking a swift return after his widely publicised departure.

In a statement addressed to OpenAI's Board of Directors, the employees voiced concern, stating, "The manner in which you terminated Sam Altman and removed Greg Brockman from the board has jeopardized our collective efforts, undermining the company's mission. Your actions have demonstrated a lack of competence in overseeing OpenAI."

Sam Altman responded the message with a heart and salute emoji, confirming his return to OpenAI.

''i love openai, and everything i've done over the past few days has been in service of keeping this team and its mission together. when i decided to join msft on sun evening, it was clear that was the best path for me and the team. with the new board and w satya's support, i'm looking forward to returning to openai, and building on our strong partnership with msft,'' Sam Altman wrote.

This comes after nearly 500 employees at OpenAI expressed their intention to resign unless the board steps down and reinstates ousted CEO Sam Altman. Notably, among those signing the letter is Ilya Sutskever, the company's chief scientist and a board member, who had previously been implicated in orchestrating Altman's removal from the board.

Earlier reports revealed Microsoft Chief Executive Satya Nadella's announcement, made on X, that Altman would head a new research group within Microsoft, alongside other departing OpenAI members, including outgoing President Greg Brockman, who left the company following Altman's removal.
