The statement, posted on social media, highlighted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman had informed about the incident, underscoring the embassy's commitment to supporting the bereaved families during this difficult time.

Six individuals lost their lives, and 28 others sustained injuries in a shooting incident at a mosque in Oman, which occurred during a significant religious gathering for Shia Muslims in the district of Wadi al-Kabir, located east of the capital city of Muscat. The occurrence of violence in the Gulf nation is considered uncommon, as reported by Al Jazeera.

Video footage captured people fleeing near the Imam Ali Mosque as gunfire erupted, with its minaret visible, accompanied by cries of "Oh God!" According to Al Jazeera, four Pakistanis and a policeman were among those killed, while at least 28 others were wounded in the attack. Omani authorities stated that three gunmen responsible for the incident were killed, and police have completed their response procedures, as reported in a statement on Tuesday.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. Following the shooting, the US Embassy in Muscat issued a security alert advising American citizens to remain vigilant, stay updated with local news, and follow directions from local authorities. Such incidents are uncommon in Oman, a country known for its role as a regional mediator and low crime rate.

The attack occurred during the Muslim day of Ashura, a significant occasion for Shia Muslims commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, Prophet Muhammad's grandson, on the seventh-century battlefield. Shia Muslims often observe Ashura by visiting Imam Hussein's shrine in Karbala, Iraq, while Sunni Muslims mark the day through fasting.
