Not only Indian but thousands of Pak workers too lose jobs in Saudi

Islamabad, Aug 4: Workers from not just India but also Pakistan were left stranded and without a penny in Saudi Arabia after the reduction in oil prices saw massive layoffs in various sectors, including construction.

Thousands of Pakistani workers in the West Asian kingdom have lost their earnings over the past one year but it was only after a section of the media raised the issue that Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took notice of it, said the country's Daily Times.

On Tuesday (August 2), Pakistan's foreign office said the government was doing all it can to help the laid-off workers and also a centre has set up in Saudi capital Riyadh to help the distressed, the daily said.
