Not 27%, India To Face 26% Reciprocal Tariff Under Trump’s New Policy
Confusion reigned as U.S. President Donald Trump rolled out his "reciprocal tariff" policy, with initial documents showing inconsistent rates for multiple countries. India, which was first listed with a 27% tariff in the White House annex, will now face a 26% tariff, aligning with the figures Trump displayed during his Rose Garden announcement.
Bloomberg reported that discrepancies were found between the annexed implementation document and the charts shown during the public address. In fact, 14 countries had rates listed one percentage point higher in the annex compared to the visual charts. The White House later revised the annex to reflect the lower rates.

India's tariff rate, for example, was corrected from 27% to 26%. South Korea's rate also fluctuated between 25% and 26% before settling at 25%. Other affected countries with similar rate mismatches included Botswana, Norway, Pakistan, Serbia, and the Philippines.
India, responding to the policy shift, described the tariffs as a "mixed bag" rather than a "setback." Ongoing trade negotiations between India and the U.S. are expected to conclude later this year.
Under Trump's executive order, a flat 10% tariff came into effect for all U.S. trading partners from April 5. Four days later, elevated tariffs as listed in the annex took effect-though now revised.
Interestingly, some overseas territories shown with distinct rates in Trump's charts were excluded from the final annex. These included France's Reunion Island (originally shown with a 37% rate), Saint Pierre and Miquelon near Canada, and Australia's Norfolk Island. As a result, the governing nations' broader rates will apply-20% for France and 10% for Australia.
A White House official confirmed that the revised annex rates will be the ones officially implemented.
