North Korean Soldiers Training In Russia: A Sign Of Kremlin’s Desperation, Says White House
In a significant development, the White House has confirmed that North Korean soldiers are travelling to Russia and may soon join the fight against Ukraine, a move seen as a clear sign of Russia's growing desperation in its ongoing war.
National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby revealed that the soldiers are undergoing training in Russia, sparking concerns over potential violations of multiple UN Security Council resolutions, as reported by Times Of India.

North Korean Soldiers in Russia: Legitimate Military Targets
During a press briefing, Kirby stated that if these North Korean soldiers enter combat alongside Russian forces in Ukraine, they will become legitimate military targets. He emphasised that the U.S. is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with its allies to assess potential responses. "We will see what the Russians and North Koreans decide to do here, but if these soldiers join the fight, it's a sign of weakness on the Kremlin's part," Kirby noted.
South Korea's Claims of North Korean Involvement
According to South Korean reports, at least 3,000 North Korean soldiers have travelled to Russia. These soldiers are reportedly receiving training on drones and other military equipment before potentially being deployed to the battlefield in Ukraine. The soldiers are believed to have travelled by ship from North Korea's Wonsan area to Vladivostok, Russia, before moving on to various Russian military training sites, as reported by Times Of India.
White House Concerns Over Russia-North Korea Cooperation
Kirby expressed concern over this cooperation between Russia and North Korea, noting that it violates several UN Security Council resolutions. These resolutions prohibit the procurement of arms and military training from North Korea. "This is certainly a highly concerning probability," Kirby said, adding that the situation underscores Russia's struggles on the battlefield.
A Sign of the Kremlin's Growing Desperation
Kirby further remarked that Russia's reliance on North Korean soldiers highlights the Kremlin's desperation, as per media reports. "Russia is suffering extraordinary casualties every single day, yet President Putin appears determined to continue this war. If Russia is indeed turning to North Korea for manpower, it's a clear sign of weakness, not strength," Kirby stated.
The U.S. and its allies continue to monitor the situation closely, while the Ukrainian government has also been briefed on the developments. If North Korean soldiers do enter combat, it could significantly escalate tensions in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
