North Dakota Man Faces Felony Charges for Threatening to Kill Former President Obama
A man from North Dakota is facing serious charges, including threatening to kill former President Barack Obama. Ian Patrick Stewart, from Williston, has been indicted by a federal grand jury. The charges include burglary, damaging US property, terrorising, malicious mischief, and making threats through interstate communications.

Stewart allegedly threatened Obama between 20 April and 13 May. The indictment states he "did knowingly and willfully threaten to kill and inflict bodily harm upon" the former president. However, specific details of these threats are not included in the document.
Threats and Trespassing
In addition to the threats against Obama, Stewart is accused of threatening three residents in Williston in May. He also reportedly broke into the Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site on 13 May when it was closed to the public. During this incident, he allegedly caused an evacuation and threatened both a Park Service employee and local law enforcement officers.
The Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site is located along the Missouri River at the Montana-North Dakota border. It highlights the history of the fur trade and the post that operated there during the 19th century. The site was temporarily closed due to what authorities described as a "barricaded subject situation."
Legal Proceedings
Stewart is currently detained at the Ward County Detention Center in Minot. He is expected to appear in court on Monday. Court records do not list an attorney for him, and a voicemail left by The Associated Press has not been returned.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the incident at the historic site. The road leading to it was also closed during the standoff. The Williams County Sheriff's Office confirmed these details previously.
The charges against Stewart are severe, reflecting the gravity of his alleged actions. His upcoming court appearance will likely provide more information on how these events unfolded and what consequences he may face.
