EAM S Jaishankar Urges Global Unity Against Terrorism and Nuclear Blackmail at UN

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has called for global unity to ensure terrorists face justice, are not used as proxies, and that nuclear threats are not tolerated. He emphasised India's zero-tolerance stance on terrorism following the Pahalgam attack. Jaishankar made these remarks during the inauguration of an exhibition titled ‘The Human Cost of Terrorism’ at the UN headquarters.

Jaishankar Calls for Action Against Terrorism

The exhibition, which runs from June 30 to July 3 and July 7 to July 11, coincides with Pakistan's Presidency of the UN Security Council starting Tuesday. It showcases the devastating impact of terrorism worldwide, including attacks in Mumbai and Pahalgam. The display highlights terror groups responsible for these acts, many based in Pakistan.

Global Responsibility Against Terrorism

Jaishankar stressed that terrorism is a severe threat to humanity and contradicts the principles of human rights and international norms upheld by the UN. He urged nations to expose and counter any state sponsorship of terrorism, stating, "Terrorism anywhere is a threat to peace everywhere." This understanding should guide collective global responses.

Referring to the April 22 Pahalgam attack, Jaishankar noted that the UN Security Council had strongly condemned this act and demanded accountability. Following this, India launched Operation Sindoor targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This response underscores India's firm stance against terrorism.

Exhibition Highlights Human Cost

Addressing UN ambassadors and officials at the exhibition opening, Jaishankar highlighted its significance as a tribute to victims who can no longer speak. The exhibition aims to remind us of the lives disrupted by terrorism and the urgency of combating it in all forms. "This exhibition is a modest yet resolute effort," he said.

The minister also emphasised that terrorism supported by states or driven by extremism must be publicly condemned. He stated that such acts fuel illegal activities and disrupt global society. The exhibition serves as a reminder of the havoc caused by terrorism and the need for collective action.

Commitment to Combat Terrorism

In his remarks, Jaishankar stressed the importance of remembering victims while committing to act against terrorism. He urged the UN to protect values and human rights threatened by such acts. "We must not just remember but commit ourselves," he said, highlighting shared responsibility in combating terrorism.

In a post on X, Jaishankar appreciated the UN Security Council's condemnation of the Pahalgam attack and reiterated the need for accountability. He stated that the exhibition conveys a strong message: no impunity for terrorists, no use as proxies, no yielding to nuclear blackmail, and exposing state sponsorship.

The minister concluded by underlining the urgent responsibility of the global community to combat terrorism in all its manifestations. This call for action reflects India's commitment to addressing terrorism on an international scale.
