Nigeria’s Former President Muhammadu Buhari Dies at 82
Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria's former president and a prominent figure in the country's political history, has died at the age of 82. His press secretary confirmed his death on Sunday, stating that Buhari passed away in London, where he had been receiving medical treatment in recent weeks.
Buhari served as Nigeria's head of state twice - first as a military ruler from 1983 to 1985, and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023. In 2015, he made history by becoming the first opposition candidate to defeat a sitting president, ushering in a new chapter in Nigeria's democracy.

His presidency focused on anti-corruption efforts, security reforms, and the fight against Boko Haram insurgents. However, his tenure was also marked by widespread criticism due to economic stagnation, rising inflation, and unemployment, making it one of Nigeria's most challenging economic periods in decades.
Despite mixed reviews of his leadership, Buhari remained a significant figure in Nigeria's political landscape, admired by supporters for his integrity and discipline. His passing marks the end of an era for Nigeria, closing the chapter on a leader who shaped the country through both military command and democratic governance
