A New Hampshire man has been accused of sending threatening text messages to a presidential candidate ahead of a scheduled campaign event on Monday, according to federal prosecutors. The U.S. Attorneys office did not disclose the candidate's name, but a spokesperson for Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy confirmed that the texts were directed at his campaign.

Swift Action by Law Enforcement
Stefan Mychajliw, deputy communications director for Ramaswamy's campaign, expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their prompt and professional handling of the matter. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of all Americans.
Arrest and Court Appearance
The 30-year-old suspect was apprehended on Saturday and charged with sending a threat using interstate commerce. He was scheduled to appear in court on Monday afternoon. As of now, no contact information for the individual is available, and the case file does not indicate the appointment of an attorney.
Campaign Event Proceeds Despite Threats
Despite the threats, Ramaswamy proceeded with his scheduled event at the Roundabout Diner & Lounge in Portsmouth, demonstrating resilience in the face of adversity.
Details of the Threatening Texts
Court documents reveal that the suspect received a text message from the candidate's campaign on Friday, informing him of the upcoming breakfast event in Portsmouth. In response, the campaign staff received two disturbing text messages. One threatened to shoot the candidate in the head, while the other threatened to kill everyone present at the event and desecrate their bodies. The FBI traced the cellphone number used to send these messages to the suspect.
Search Warrant Executed
On Saturday, FBI agents executed a search warrant at the suspect's residence. The affidavit states that the threatening texts were discovered in a deleted folder on the suspect's phone.
Additional Threats Sent
During an interview with the FBI, the suspect admitted to sending similar threatening texts to "multiple other campaigns," according to the affidavit.
Potential Penalties
The charge against the suspect carries significant potential consequences. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
The incident highlights the importance of addressing threats to public figures and ensuring the safety of political discourse in the United States.
