The picture depicted the couple's heads touching as they appeared to be watching a musical performance. "I love you," was posted on the social networking platform by Yulia Navalnaya, an economist by profession. The comment section was flooded with reactions where most of them consoled the unfortunate incident.
He was held in one of Russia's 'toughest penal colonies,' a maximum-security jail located in the Arctic Circle, on charges related to extremism and fraud. Imprisoned in January 2021, a 19-year sentence was being served by him at the time of his death. Navalny's imprisonment, however, was widely perceived as an 'act of retribution' by Putin and the Kremlin.
'Putin will not go unpunished': Yulia
At a security conference in Germany's Munich hours after Russian authorities announced Navalny's death, Yulia Navalnaya, squarely blamed Putin, stating at the time that if the news of her spouse's demise was true, the Russian President would be 'personally responsible.'
"I'd like Putin and all his staff to know that they will be punished for what has been done with our country, with my family and with my husband. This horrific regime in Russia today should be fought against. Vladimir Putin should be personally held accountable for all the atrocities committed in our country in the last years," she stated.
She further added: "Putin and his government always lie. I want him, his entourage, friends, and the government to know that they will bear responsibility for what was done to our country, to my family, and to my husband. And this day will come very soon."
