NASA Set to Train Indian Astronauts for Joint International Space Station Mission
NASA is set to offer advanced training to Indian astronauts as part of a collaborative mission to the International Space Station (ISS), announced US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti. This announcement came during the US-India Commercial Space Conference in Bangalore, aimed at fostering opportunities for space startups from both nations. The conference, hosted by the US-India Business Council (USIBC) and the US Commercial Service (USCS), saw discussions on the future of space exploration and innovation.

Garcetti highlighted the upcoming launch of the NISAR satellite from ISRO's Satish Dhawan Space Center, designed to monitor Earth's resources, ecosystems, and natural hazards. This initiative underscores the commitment of both countries to peaceful space exploration and the utilization of space for sustainable development. The conference also emphasized the potential for creating high-tech jobs through collaborations in the space sector.
The event in Bengaluru was attended by notable figures including ISRO Chairman Dr. Somanath. S, representatives from NASA and NOAA, and leaders from the commercial space industry. Dr. Somanath praised the visionary leadership of both nations in pursuing sustainable lunar exploration and strengthening connections in critical space technologies.
USIBC president Atul Keshap described the collaboration as a new chapter in the US-India space partnership, highlighting the week's achievements in promoting space deliverables. Alexander Slater, USIBC managing director, spoke on the importance of strategic partnerships in driving innovation and economic growth within the space industry. This conference marks a significant step in bilateral cooperation, building on previous efforts to enhance innovation and technological leadership between the two countries.
