Witness Account

Brianna Walker, a 26-year-old eyewitness, described the harrowing moments as the plane's wing dragged the car in front of hers before slamming into a wall. She narrowly avoided the collision, with mere seconds separating her from the impacted vehicle. Walker and her friend spotted the plane just before it hit the highway, allowing them to pull over in time.

Plane's Trajectory

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) identified the aircraft as a Bombardier Challenger 600 jet and confirmed that the crash occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. Collier County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Adam Fisher confirmed the unfortunate loss of two lives but could not immediately provide details on whether the victims were passengers on the plane or individuals on the ground.

Flight Details

According to the FlightAware aircraft tracker, the ill-fated plane was operated by Hop-a-Jet Worldwide Charter, based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It had taken off from an airport at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, at around 1:02 p.m. and was scheduled to land in Naples at 3:12 p.m. The intended final destination for the flight was Fort Lauderdale.

Ongoing Investigation

Hop-a-Jet did not immediately respond to requests for comment via email and phone. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will conduct a thorough investigation, with the NTSB taking the lead.

Traffic Disruption

The Florida Highway Patrol issued a news release advising motorists to seek alternate routes as the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 remained closed due to the incident. A photograph captured by the Florida Department of Transportation depicted a vast plume of black smoke emanating from the plane.

This tragic event serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of aviation and the potential risks associated with emergency landings. The loss of two lives underscores the importance of thorough investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding such incidents and ensure the safety of passengers and individuals on the ground.
