Nancy Pelosi Hospitalised Following Injury Sustained During Official Trip to Luxembourg
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, aged 84, has been hospitalised following an injury sustained during an official event in Luxembourg. Pelosi was in Europe with a bipartisan congressional delegation to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge from World War II. Her spokesperson, Ian Krager, confirmed she is receiving excellent medical care but will miss the remaining events on her itinerary.

A source familiar with the incident revealed that Pelosi tripped and fell during an event with other congressional members. The source requested anonymity as they were not authorised to discuss the matter publicly. Krager mentioned that Pelosi "looks forward to returning home to the US soon." However, he did not provide details about the nature of her injury.
Support from Colleagues
Among those accompanying Pelosi was Representative Michael McCaul. He expressed his support on social media, stating he was "praying for a speedy recovery" for her. A photograph taken at the US Embassy in Luxembourg showed McCaul and Pelosi holding hands. McCaul wrote on X, "I'm disappointed Speaker Emerita Pelosi won't be able to join the rest of our delegation's events this weekend as I know how much she looked forward to honoring our veterans."
Pelosi's fall comes two years after her husband, Paul, was attacked in their San Francisco home by a man wielding a hammer. The attacker was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison in October after breaking into their home searching for Pelosi.
Pelosi's Continued Involvement
First elected in 1987, Pelosi served twice as House Speaker before stepping down from her leadership role two years ago. She remains active in Congress, representing her San Francisco district after being re-elected last November. Despite leaving her top position, she continues to work with Democrats both publicly and privately.
Recently, she played a crucial role in urging President Joe Biden to leave the presidential ticket through behind-the-scenes efforts within her party. Last weekend, she attended the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington and was present on the Senate floor for the swearing-in of former Democratic House colleagues Adam Schiff and Andy Kim.
Similar Incidents
This week also saw Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, aged 82, experiencing a fall in the Senate. He sprained his wrist and cut his face during the incident. McConnell is set to step down from his leadership role at year's end and missed Senate votes on Thursday due to leg stiffness following his fall.
Pelosi's commitment to public service remains evident despite recent challenges. Her dedication continues as she navigates these personal and professional hurdles while maintaining her active role in Congress.
