Myanmar Earthquake: 1 Worker Killed As 30-Storey Skyscraper Collapses In Bangkok | VIDEO

A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Mandalay, Myanmar, on Friday, causing widespread destruction. The quake, which occurred at a depth of just 10 kilometers, led to the collapse of a 30-storey under-construction skyscraper, trapping at least 43 workers inside.

Myanmar's ruling junta has made a rare appeal for international humanitarian aid and imposed a state of emergency in six regions following a powerful earthquake that struck the country on Friday.

At least one person has been killed in the aftermath, according to Thailand's National Institute of Emergency Medicine. Authorities confirmed that dozens of workers have been rescued from beneath the rubble, while search and rescue operations continue.

Powerful Aftershock

Shortly after the main tremor, a 6.4-magnitude aftershock rattled the region, further worsening the situation. The earthquake's effects were felt as far as Thailand and Vietnam, with reports of buildings shaking and people rushing to open spaces.

Bangkok Declares State of Emergency

In Thailand, the tremors led to panic in Bangkok, where thousands of residents evacuated high-rise buildings. In response to the quake, Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra declared a state of emergency in Bangkok, citing concerns over structural damage and possible aftershocks. Emergency teams have been deployed to assess the damage and assist those affected.

Emergency teams in Myanmar have been deployed to locate and rescue the trapped workers. However, ongoing tremors and structural instability have complicated relief efforts. Authorities fear that the death toll could rise as more buildings have reportedly collapsed across the affected areas.

Meanwhile, there has been no immediate update from Myanmar authorities regarding the extent of damage in the country. An officer from the Myanmar Fire Services Department told Reuters that search efforts have begun, with teams moving across Yangon to assess casualties and destruction.
