Multiple Stabbings At Sydney Shopping Centre, Attacker Taken Down By Police

A horrific attack at Westfield Bondi Junction shopping mall in Sydney has left four people dead and several others critically injured. The incident unfolded on Saturday afternoon, sending hundreds of shoppers fleeing in panic. Following the stabbing, hundreds were evacuated from Westfield Bondi Junction near Bondi Beach.

Police reported several critical injuries and confirmed that one person was shot, although the outcome of the shooting was unclear, as per The Sydney Morning Herald. The attack occurred in the city's eastern suburbs around 3:40 pm local time, with emergency services called to the mall before 4 pm in response to reports of multiple stabbings.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing gunshots during the incident. After the evacuation, a police operation was initiated at the mall, with first responders arriving to address the stabbing.

"A critical incident has commenced following the shooting of a male at Bondi Junction. Just before 4 pm (Saturday, 13 April 2024), emergency services were called to Westfield Bondi Junction following reports of multiple people stabbed. People are urged to avoid the area. Inquiries are ongoing, and there are no further details," New South Wales police stated.

Social media posts showed scenes of panic as people fled the mall, with police cars and emergency services rushing to the area.

Ellie Williams, a 21-year-old eyewitness, recounted being at the mall's food court when chaos erupted, describing the attacker as wearing a hoodie and wielding a knife while chasing people.

Another eyewitness, who preferred to remain anonymous, stated she was about to enter a Coles supermarket at the mall when she saw the attacker brandish a knife and open fire, prompting her to seek safety.
