Morocco Earthquake Tremors Caught in This Spine-Chilling Video

A powerful earthquake struck Morocco on Friday night, killing over 600, leaving at least 329 injured and damaging buildings from villages in the Atlas Mountains to the historic city of Marrakech.

A camera has captured the rattling effects of the quake where panicked people can seen fearing for their lives. The video of this incident has now gone viral.

Moroccan television showed scenes from the aftermath, as many stayed outside fearing aftershocks. Anxious families stood in the streets or huddled on the pavement, some carrying children, blankets or other belongings.

Rescue personnel, clad in bright yellow vests that cast an eerie glow across the darkened scenery, tirelessly searched for survivors amidst the wreckage of structures. The earthquake had torn a significant breach in a residence, while a vehicle found itself perilously close to being buried under the debris of a collapsed edifice.

    Among the scattered stones within the ruins of a building, observers could spot baskets, buckets, and items of clothing. Meanwhile, online images circulated depicting frantic individuals in flight, their voices raised in alarm near the venerable 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque in Marrakech, a cherished icon of the city.

    Morocco's government said the death toll in a powerful earthquake around Marrakech more than doubled Saturday morning to 632 dead and 329 injured as authorities assess the damage.

    Much like other earthquakes, casualty figures appear to be rising as the extent becomes more clear in rural and hard-to-reach areas. The earthquake struck late Friday night, killing hundreds of people and damaging buildings from villages in the Atlas Mountains to the historic city of Marrakech. Earlier Morocco's Interior Ministry said earlier Saturday that at least 296 people had died.

    Moroccans also posted videos showing parts of the famous red walls that surround the old city in Marrakech, a UNESCO World Heritage site, damaged. The head of a town near the earthquake's epicenter told Moroccan news site 2M that several homes in nearby towns had partly or totally collapsed, and electricity and roads were cut off in some places.
