Modi's Big US Tour: Quad Summit In Delaware & UN Spotlight-What To Expect!

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make his first visit to the United States since assuming office for a third consecutive term this month. This trip follows Modi's recent visits to Ukraine and Russia over the past two months.

During this visit, the prime minister will attend the Quad Summit, which is scheduled for September 21 in Wilmington, Delaware, the hometown of outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Modi's Big US Tour: Quad Summit

This summit is significant as it will be the last time the current leaders of the Quad alliance-Biden, Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japan's Fumio Kishida-meet, as both Biden and Kishida are set to step down from their respective offices.

It has been announced by President Biden that he will not be running for a second term in the White House. Similarly, Kishida has confirmed his decision not to seek re-election as the leader of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party.

Modi, who is now serving his 11th year as India's prime minister, is recognized as a senior leader among the four. The upcoming Delaware summit holds particular significance for India as the country is set to host the Quad Summit in 2025, as reported by Hindustan Times.

The Quad Summit in Delaware will mark the 20th anniversary of the formation of the Quad alliance. Wilmington, where President Biden resides, was chosen for the event after the U.S. initially explored Sunnylands estate in California as a potential location. Sunnylands holds significance as the place where former U.S. President Barack Obama hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013 to discuss a "new model of major-country relations," proposing a framework of no conflict or confrontation between Washington and Beijing.

Modi's visit to the United States will continue after the Quad Summit. His itinerary includes a stop in New York, where he will attend the United Nations Summit of the Future on September 22-23. On September 22, he will speak at a large community event titled "Modi & US: Progress Together" at the 16,000-seat Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island, as per media reports.

Despite these engagements, Modi will not be addressing the United Nations General Assembly, as External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to deliver India's address on September 28.

This visit comes months ahead of the U.S. presidential elections, where former President Donald Trump, representing the Republicans, is set to face Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.
