PM Modi Discusses Bilateral Ties with Biden, Trudeau at G7 Summit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently engaged in discussions with global leaders on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Italy's Apulia region, highlighting India's diplomatic engagements amid ongoing international concerns. Notably, Modi had a brief conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, a meeting that draws attention due to the recent tensions between India and Canada. Additionally, Modi's interaction with US President Joe Biden marked another significant diplomatic moment, coming months after allegations of an Indian link to a plot against Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in New York.

The Modi-Trudeau dialogue comes at a crucial time when relations between India and Canada are strained over accusations by Trudeau regarding the involvement of Indian agents in the assassination of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia last year. India has dismissed these allegations as baseless and motivated, emphasizing the ongoing issue of Canada harboring pro-Khalistan elements. Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra reiterated India's stance, urging Canada to act against those advocating extremism and violence from its soil.
Modi-Biden Exchange: A Step Towards Global Good
Following his conversation with Trudeau, Prime Minister Modi also interacted with President Joe Biden. This meeting is significant as it comes after allegations made by Washington nearly seven months ago concerning an Indian connection to a foiled assassination plot in New York. In response to these allegations, India has initiated a high-level investigation. Modi expressed optimism about Indo-US relations post-discussion, emphasizing collaborative efforts for global welfare. "It's always a pleasure to meet @POTUS @JoeBiden. India and USA will keep working together to further global good," Modi stated.
The Khalistani Extremist Case and Its Implications
The assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was declared a terrorist by India and was killed outside a gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18 last year, has been a point of contention. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is investigating the murder. The incident has significantly impacted the diplomatic relations between India and Canada, with New Delhi urging Ottawa to take decisive action against anti-India elements residing in Canada.
In conclusion, the recent interactions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi with leaders like Justin Trudeau and Joe Biden at the G7 summit underscore the complexities and challenges in India's foreign relations. While striving to address allegations and concerns on an international platform, India remains focused on promoting global good through cooperation and dialogue.
