PM Modi Engages In Talks With Biden, Trudeau At G7 Summit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in discussions with global leaders, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and US President Joe Biden, on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Italy's Apulia region. The interactions come at a time when India's diplomatic relations with Canada have been tense due to allegations surrounding the assassination of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

During the summit, Modi expressed his contentment over meeting President Biden, emphasizing the continued partnership between India and the USA towards global welfare. "It's always a pleasure to meet @POTUS @JoeBiden. India and USA will keep working together to further global good," Modi shared on X. Similarly, his encounter with Trudeau was highlighted on social media, though details of their conversation remain undisclosed.
The bilateral relationship between India and Canada has been under scrutiny since Trudeau suggested the possible involvement of Indian agents in Nijjar's murder in British Columbia last year, an accusation India vehemently denies. New Delhi has criticized Canada for allegedly providing a platform for pro-Khalistan elements, which has been a core issue straining the ties between the two nations.
Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra recently reiterated India's stance, pointing out the ongoing concern over Canada's alleged support to anti-India factions. India expects Ottawa to take decisive actions against such elements, emphasizing the need for a resolution to mend bilateral relations.
Nijjar's death on June 18 last year outside a gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, has been a focal point of contention. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are currently investigating the case. In response to Trudeau's allegations last year, India had asked Canada to reduce its diplomatic staff in the country, leading to the withdrawal of 41 Canadian diplomats and their families from India.
This recent interaction between Modi and Trudeau at the G7 summit underscores a critical juncture in diplomatic relations between India and Canada, highlighting ongoing efforts to address mutual concerns amidst global diplomatic engagements.
