Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei is known around the world for his long reign and extremely lavish lifestyle. With an estimated wealth of 50 billion dollars and a personal collection of over 7,000 cars, he is one of the richest royals alive today, as per the Network 18 report.
Born on July 15, 1946, to Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III, Bolkiah became the crown prince at a young age. He officially became the 29th Sultan of Brunei in August 1968. Since then, he has remained in power and is currently the world's longest-reigning monarch still alive. He also serves as the country's prime minister and holds several top positions in the government.
Brunei is a small but wealthy country, thanks to its oil reserves. Under the Sultan's rule, the nation has gained international attention, not only for its riches but also for the Sultan's personal fortune and grand way of living.
The Sultan lives in a palace called Istana Nurul Iman, which cost around 600 million dollars to build. It has 1,778 rooms, 257 bathrooms, five swimming pools, a mosque, a polo ground, a huge throne room, and a garage that fits 110 cars. Guinness World Records calls it the world's largest residential palace.
His love for luxury doesn't stop there. The Sultan owns 500 Rolls-Royces and many other high-end cars from Ferrari, Bentley, BMW, and Jaguar. His garage even includes three of the only five McLaren F1 LM cars ever made. He also has a private fleet of planes, including a Boeing 747 that is said to be gold-plated.
In 2024, he welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during PM Modi's first official visit to Brunei.
