Mass Stabbing in Suriname: Nine Killed, Including Five Children in Paramaribo

Paramaribo, Suriname - Nine people, including five children, were stabbed to death overnight in Suriname's capital, Paramaribo, police confirmed on Sunday. The mass killing occurred between December 27 and December 28, prompting a major emergency response and state-level investigation.

According to an official police statement shared with AFP, the attack was carried out using a sharp weapon. Investigators said the victims - four adults and five children - were all killed at a location in Paramaribo. Two others, including a sixth child and one adult, sustained severe injuries and were transported to a hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Police said officers were forced to intervene to stop the attack. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was shot in both legs by police before being arrested at the scene. He is currently hospitalized under police guard.

"A male individual killed four adults and five children with a sharp object. A sixth child and an adult were seriously injured and were transported to hospital," the police statement read.

Authorities have not released information regarding the motive behind the killings or the identities of the victims. Visuals later showed police vehicles and crime-scene tape near the area where the incident took place.
