Federation President Samir Kakli expressed surprise and disappointment, highlighting that numerous Muslim groups and families had successfully held events at the Coral Springs Marriott without any incidents. Kakli emphasized that the federation had proactively hired Coral Springs police officers and private guards for security, offering to hire more if necessary, but Marriott declined the proposal.

The hotel raised concerns about the potential for violence, citing the proximity to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where a tragic shooting occurred six years ago. Kakli refuted these concerns, stating that the group remained committed to practicing their right to freedom of religion and gathering peacefully. Despite the setback, the federation is actively seeking an alternative venue to host the conference.

Kakli vehemently denied the accusations of supporting terrorism or antisemitism, emphasizing that such allegations are often used to delegitimize criticism of Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government, and the treatment of Gaza. Wilfredo Ruiz, spokesperson for the Council of American-Islamic Relations-Florida, viewed the conference cancellation as part of a broader effort in the state to suppress criticism of Israel. He pointed to recent actions by Governor Ron DeSantis, such as barring the group Students for Justice in Palestine from public university campuses and the dismissal of Muslim doctors who expressed support for Palestinians. Ruiz expressed concern about the erosion of free speech and constitutional rights in the state.
