A human body was discovered within the charred remains of a water park under construction at one of Sweden's most prominent amusement centers, according to a statement released by the police on Friday. A devastating fire that occurred on Monday resulted in the destruction of a significant portion of the Oceana water park, which was scheduled to open this summer in Gothenburg, Sweden's second-largest city.

Authorities were finally able to access the site on Friday and made the grim discovery of a deceased individual. However, the identity of the person remains unconfirmed at this time, as stated by the police.

Fire's Devastating Impact

The fire, which broke out at the renowned Liseberg amusement complex, rapidly spread across multiple water slides and the pool area of the water park. As a precautionary measure, a nearby hotel and office facilities were evacuated. Regrettably, one person was reported missing as a result of the fire, while 16 others sustained minor injuries.

Firefighters' Progress

Firefighters successfully brought the blaze under control on Tuesday, but they were unable to access a specific section of the area due to the imminent risk of a collapse. On Friday, they provided an update, indicating that they are now in the concluding stages of their operations.

Oceana's Envisioned Grandeur

The Oceana water park was designed to feature an expansive indoor swimming area spanning nearly 6,000 square meters (7,176 square yards) and an equally impressive outdoor swimming facility measuring 4,000 square meters (4,780 square yards). This venue was anticipated to accommodate up to 1,750 visitors simultaneously.

Liseberg, which first opened its doors in 1923, has emerged as a prominent tourist destination, attracting approximately 3 million visitors annually.
