Israeli Air Strikes Kill 492 People In Lebanon
Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon on Monday resulted in over 490 fatalities, including more than 90 women and children, according to Lebanese officials. This marks the deadliest attack since the 2006 conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. The Israeli military has advised residents in southern and eastern Lebanon to evacuate as it intensifies its air campaign against Hezbollah.
The strikes have led to a mass exodus, with thousands of Lebanese fleeing the south. The main highway from Sidon to Beirut was heavily congested, marking the largest movement of people since 2006. Lebanon's health ministry reported that 492 people were killed, including 35 children and 58 women, while 1,645 were injured. This toll is significant for a nation still recovering from last week's attack on communication infrastructure.

Impact of Recent Strikes
The recent death toll surpasses the devastation of Beirut's port explosion in 2020, which killed at least 218 people and injured over 6,000. In a recorded message, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged Lebanese civilians to heed evacuation warnings. "Please get out of harm's way now," Netanyahu stated. "Once our operation is finished, you can come back safely to your homes."
Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, Israel's military spokesman, asserted that Monday's airstrikes severely damaged Hezbollah's capabilities. However, he did not specify a timeline for the operation and mentioned that Israel might consider a ground invasion if necessary. "We are not looking for wars. We are looking to take down the threats," he said.

Military Operations and Strategy
Hagari noted that Hezbollah has launched approximately 9,000 rockets and drones into Israel since last October, with 250 attacks occurring on Monday alone. He stated that Israeli warplanes targeted 1,300 Hezbollah sites on Monday, destroying various weapons hidden in residential areas. "Hezbollah has turned southern Lebanon into a war zone," he remarked during a news conference.
Israel estimates that Hezbollah possesses around 150,000 rockets and missiles, including guided missiles capable of reaching any location within Israel. The ongoing conflict highlights the significant threat posed by Hezbollah's arsenal and the challenges faced by both nations in maintaining security and stability in the region.
The situation remains tense as both sides continue their military operations. The international community watches closely as developments unfold, hoping for a resolution that will prevent further loss of life and destruction in the region.
