Leaked Audio Says Mojtaba Khamenei Escaped Tehran Missile Attack Moments Before Impact

Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran's newly appointed Supreme Leader, reportedly survived an Israeli missile strike by mere seconds after stepping out of a Tehran compound moments before the attack that killed his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and his wife, Haddad, according to a report citing leaked audio from an internal Iranian meeting.

The strike, said to have taken place on February 28 under Israel's Operation Epic Fury, also allegedly killed several senior Iranian officials and relatives inside the compound.

Leaked Audio Claims Mojtaba Stepped Out Just Before Missiles Hit

According to a report by The Telegraph, the claims are based on leaked audio from a March 12 meeting attended by senior Iranian clerics and commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). In the recording, Mazaher Hosseini, head of protocol for the late leader's office, reportedly described how Mojtaba Khamenei narrowly avoided death.

"God's will was that Mojtaba had to go out to the yard to do something and then return," Hosseini was quoted as saying in the recording. "He was outside and was heading upstairs when they struck the building with a missile."

The report said Mojtaba had been inside the building with his father shortly before the missiles hit, but had stepped out just before the compound was struck.

Multiple Blue Sparrow Missiles Reportedly Targeted Tehran Compound

The report said Israeli Blue Sparrow ballistic missiles were used in the strike, with at least three missiles allegedly hitting different sections of the compound. One missile reportedly struck the area where Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was present, while another hit Mojtaba Khamenei's upper-floor residence.

A third missile is said to have hit the residence of Mojtaba's brother-in-law, Misbah al-Huda Bagheri Kani, within the same compound.

Soon after Mojtaba exited the building, the missiles struck, killing Ayatollah Ali Khamenei along with dozens of senior officers and relatives, according to the report. The strike has been described as one of the deadliest targeted attacks in the ongoing conflict.

Senior Officials Among Dead, Wife Haddad Reportedly Killed Instantly

The leaked recording also detailed the scale of destruction caused by the missile attack. Hosseini reportedly told those gathered that Iranian military chief Mohammad Shirazi was among those killed, and described the aftermath in graphic terms.

"He was blown to pieces - they could find nothing from him, and at the end they found a few kilos of flesh and identified it as his body," Hosseini reportedly said.

Another missile that hit Bagheri Kani's residence caused devastating damage, with Hosseini allegedly claiming the blast was so powerful that it "cut his head in half."

According to the report, Mojtaba Khamenei survived with only a minor injury to his leg. However, his wife, identified as Haddad, was reportedly killed instantly in the strike. Another son of the late leader, Mostafa Khamenei, and his wife are said to have survived unharmed.

Rumours Swirl Over Mojtaba Khamenei's Health As Trump Weighs In

The leaked audio has emerged amid growing speculation over Mojtaba Khamenei's health and whereabouts. The new Supreme Leader has not been seen in public since the conflict began, fuelling rumours about the seriousness of his injuries.

While the report claims he escaped with a minor leg injury, other unverified accounts have suggested he may have suffered far more severe wounds, including the loss of a leg and serious internal damage. None of those claims have been independently confirmed.

US President Donald Trump also addressed the uncertainty surrounding Mojtaba Khamenei's condition on Monday, saying Washington did not know whether the Iranian leader was alive.

"A lot of people are saying that he's badly disfigured. They're saying that he lost his leg, one leg, and he's been hurt very badly. Other people are saying he's dead," Trump told reporters.

"We haven't seen him at all. We don't know if he's dead or not," he added.
