Kuwait to Compensate Mangaf Fire Victims' Families with USD 15,000 Each
In a significant announcement, the Kuwaiti government has pledged financial assistance to the families of the victims of a tragic fire in the Ahmadi Governorate, which resulted in the loss of 50 lives, including 46 Indians. The devastating incident, which unfolded on July 12 at a seven-storey building in Mangaf, was attributed to an electrical short circuit in the guard's room on the ground floor. This building was home to 196 migrant workers, predominantly from India.

Under the directive of Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait, each bereaved family is set to receive USD 15,000 as compensation. The Arab Times, citing government sources, reported that these compensation payments would be facilitated through the victims' embassies. This move aims to expedite the distribution process, ensuring that the financial aid reaches the affected families swiftly and efficiently.
The tragedy also affected three Filipino nationals, while the identity of one victim remains unknown. The embassies involved are tasked with ensuring that the compensation is promptly delivered to the families of those impacted by this calamity.
In response to this incident, Kuwait’s public prosecutor has initiated an investigation to delve into the circumstances and potential causes of this deadly fire. Furthermore, several arrests have been made, including a Kuwaiti citizen and multiple foreigners. These individuals face charges related to manslaughter and causing injuries due to negligence in adhering to security and safety measures.
This financial support from the Kuwaiti government underscores its commitment to aiding those affected during this challenging period. The investigation continues as authorities work to provide justice for the victims and their families.
