In a tragic turn of events, a young student from Telangana, Venkataramana Pittala, 27, lost his life in a jet ski accident in Florida, United States. This unfortunate incident has sent shockwaves through the community both in the US and back home in India, leaving his family and friends in profound grief.

Venkataramana was in the United States pursuing a Master's degree in Health Informatics at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). His aspirations and dreams were cut short on March 9 at Fury Plays Park, close to Wisteria Island, where he met with the fatal accident. Reports suggest that Venkataramana collided with another jet ski, operated by a 17-year-old, who, fortunately, escaped unharmed.

At the time of the accident, Venkataramana was nearing the completion of his academic journey in the US, with plans to graduate in May 2024. He held a Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from NTR Health University, Andhra Pradesh, and was looking forward to a bright future ahead. The loss of Venkataramana has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of his loved ones, both in his hometown of Kazipet, Telangana, and among the Indian student community in the US.

His funeral saw an outpouring of grief, as friends and family gathered to bid farewell to a dear son and friend. In a display of solidarity and support, Venkataramana's friends in the US have initiated a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for the transportation of his body back to India and other related expenses. The campaign has seen an overwhelming response, with donations amounting to $56,635, surpassing expectations.

However, the Ministry of External Affairs has yet to provide a clear response or outline any steps regarding the repatriation of Venkataramana's remains. This incident marks the eighth death among Indian students in the US in recent times, underscoring the challenges and risks faced by international students abroad.
