King Charles Now As Rich As Sunak And Murty—Inside His £640 Million Wealth

According to the most recent edition of The Sunday Times Rich List, King Charles's personal wealth has increased to £640 million, putting him on level with former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty.

In 2022, the year Charles ascended to the throne, Queen Elizabeth II's personal fortune was estimated to be £370 million. The 76-year-old monarch's wealth now vastly surpasses that of his late mother. King Charles' wealth increased by £30 million in the last year, placing him 238th among the wealthiest people and households in the UK.

What Makes Up King Charles's Wealth?

The reported £640 million valuation of King Charles's personal wealth includes inherited investment portfolios and privately owned estates such as Sandringham and Balmoral. These assets are distinct from the Crown Estate, which is not considered personal property.

A separate 2023 investigation by The Guardian estimated that King Charles's total fortune might actually be closer to £2 billion when including broader holdings and unlisted assets.

Murty and Sunak See a Decline in Net Worth

In the meantime, Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty's total wealth has decreased by £11 million in the last 12 months. Sunak has accepted a part-time academic position at Stanford University since resigning from his position as prime minister. A philanthropic foundation has also been established by the couple. The majority of their fortune still comes from Murty's sizeable investment in Infosys, the Indian computer behemoth that her wealthy father, Narayana Murthy, established.

Who Tops the UK Rich List?

At the top of the UK's wealthiest remains Gopi Hinduja and his family, with a net worth of approximately £35.3 billion thanks to their Hinduja Group conglomerate. Close behind are property magnates David and Simon Reuben with £26.9 billion, followed by media mogul Sir Len Blavatnik at £25.7 billion.

Notably, pop star Dua Lipa also made her debut on the Sunday Times 40 Under 40 list. The 29-year-old singer, winner of multiple Grammy and Brit Awards, ranks 34th with an estimated wealth of £115 million.
