"The Labour Party has won this general election, and I have called Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory," added Sunak, the UK's first prime minister of color.

Who Is Keir Starmer?

Born in London and raised in Surrey, Keir Starmer's journey to leadership traces back to his early activism and education. He attended Reigate Grammar School during its transition to a private institution, where his political passions began to flourish. Joining the Labour Party Young Socialists at 16, he laid the groundwork for a career dedicated to law and human rights.

Starmer's academic prowess led him to the University of Leeds, where he earned a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1985, followed by a postgraduate Bachelor of Civil Law at the University of Oxford's St Edmund Hall in 1986. After being called to the bar, he specialized in criminal defense and human rights law, becoming Queen's Counsel in 2002. His role as a human rights adviser to the Northern Ireland Policing Board deeply influenced his decision to later enter politics.

As Director of Public Prosecutions, Starmer handled significant cases, including the high-profile Stephen Lawrence murder trial. Recognized for his contributions, he was knighted as Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB) in 2014 for services to law and criminal justice.

Elected to Parliament in 2015, Starmer initially supported the Britain Stronger in Europe campaign during the Brexit referendum. His tenure in Labour's shadow cabinet saw him as Shadow Minister for Immigration, followed by Shadow Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union under Jeremy Corbyn's leadership. Advocating for a second Brexit referendum, he aligned with a left-wing platform that later propelled him to Labour Party leadership in 2020, succeeding Corbyn.

Throughout his leadership, Starmer has steered Labour towards the political center, aiming to address internal issues like antisemitism and rebuild the party's electoral credibility. His leadership culminated in Labour's victory in the 2024 general election, ending 14 years of Conservative rule.

Known for his calm demeanor and methodical approach, Starmer's leadership is characterized by a commitment to tackling economic growth, health reforms, clean energy initiatives, crime reduction, and educational improvements-setting ambitious goals for his government.

Keir Starmer's journey from legal advocate to Prime Minister embodies resilience, principled leadership, and a vision to redefine British politics in an era marked by change and stability.
