Katy Perry Joins First All-Female Space Crew In Over 60 Years On Historic Blue Origin Flight | WATCH

Pop star Katy Perry, along with five other women, made history on Monday by becoming the first all-female crew in over six decades to travel into space.

The group took part in Blue Origin's NS-31 mission, a landmark event in the realm of space tourism.

The 11-minute suborbital flight launched from West Texas and safely returned after reaching the edge of space, allowing the crew a few moments of weightlessness.

A video released by Blue Origin showed the women enjoying the exhilarating experience of feeling "weightless and limitless" in space.

Alongside Perry, the six-member crew included Lauren Sanchez, fiancée of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos; CBS presenter Gayle King; former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe; scientist and activist Amanda Nguyen; and film producer Kerianne Flynn.

The New Shepard rocket ascended to an altitude of 107 kilometres, just beyond the Kármán line-the internationally recognised boundary of space-before making its descent back to Earth.

As they settled back into their seats after the weightlessness segment, Perry sang Louis Armstrong's classic "What a Wonderful World", holding a daisy she had brought onboard as a tribute to her daughter, Daisy.

"I feel super connected to love," the singer said upon returning to Earth.

The historic launch marked the first instance in US history where every seat on a space mission was filled by women.

Since human spaceflight began 64 years ago, the only previous all-female space mission was in 1963, when Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to travel into space on a solo mission.

Blue Origin did not disclose the cost of the flight or which passengers funded it. The trip occurred just two months ahead of the upcoming wedding of Sanchez and Bezos in Venice.
