Kamala Harris Says 'People Ready To Turn Page' On Donald Trump

Kamala Harris declared on Thursday that Americans are ready to move on from Donald Trump and embrace a new direction for the country.

In her first major interview since officially entering the presidential race for the November election, Harris aimed to position herself as a centrist, emphasising her commitment to addressing illegal immigration and supporting oil and gas fracking, despite her long-held liberal views.

Kamala Harris Slams Donald Trump

The first female, Black, and South Asian vice president slammed Trump, accusing him of promoting an agenda that undermines American character and unity, stating, "I think people are ready to turn the page on that. People are ready for a new way forward."

Harris, who appeared in a joint interview on CNN with her running mate Tim Walz, also made headlines by announcing her intention to include a Republican in her cabinet if elected, reported AFP.

Meanwhile, Trump dismissed her as the "greatest flip-flopper" during a rally in Michigan, mocking her appearance in the interview and questioning her leadership qualities.

Addressing concerns about her shifting positions on fracking and immigration, Harris clarified, "As president, I will not ban fracking," aiming to reassure voters in Pennsylvania, a key battleground state. On immigration, she took a tougher stance, promising to sign strict legislation as president.

Harris is striving to appeal to centrist voters concerned about immigration and energy costs while assuring her liberal base that her core values remain unchanged. She also called for a ceasefire in Gaza but affirmed that she would not alter President Joe Biden's policies toward Israel, including military support.

Since Biden's unexpected withdrawal from the race six weeks ago, Harris has experienced a surge in polls and fundraising. However, she has faced criticism for her lack of policy specifics. Her campaign, currently focused on battleground states, has shown her with a narrow lead over Trump in several polls.

As the race intensifies, Harris acknowledged that it will be "a tight race until the very end." Both she and Trump are gearing up for their first crucial debate on September 10 in Philadelphia, which could significantly impact the outcome of the election.
