Kamala Harris Concludes Vice Presidency with Global Tour to Asia, Mideast, and Europe
Vice President Kamala Harris is set to embark on a global tour, making stops in Singapore, Bahrain, and Germany. This journey, spanning from January 13 to January 17, marks her final opportunity to address US foreign policy issues before Donald Trump assumes office. Accompanying her will be Doug Emhoff, the second gentleman. Harris has not revealed her future plans after losing the presidential election.

Harris's itinerary includes visiting Changi Naval Base in Singapore, where she will engage with local leaders. Singapore's strategic position in the Indo-Pacific region makes it a crucial ally in addressing challenges related to China, particularly concerning freedom of navigation in the South China Sea. Her visit underscores the importance of this partnership.
US Troops and Strategic Visits
In Bahrain, Harris will visit the US 5th Fleet headquarters, which plays a vital role in the Persian Gulf. The fleet is actively involved in safeguarding Israel from Iranian threats and monitoring regional shipping activities linked to the Houthis in Yemen. This stop highlights the ongoing security efforts in the region.
Harris's final destination is Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany, home to US Air Force fighter jets. Here, she plans to discuss NATO's significance in deterring Russian aggression. Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine nearly three years ago, making this topic particularly relevant. Her visit aims to reinforce NATO's role in maintaining regional stability.
Speculation About Future Roles
There is speculation that Harris might pursue a gubernatorial run in California. Her extensive travel schedule suggests she may wish to remain active on the international stage. Dean Lieberman, her deputy national security adviser, stated that Harris values spending her final days in office engaging with US service members abroad.
Harris has previously visited Germany and Singapore during her term. Bahrain will be the 22nd country she visits as vice president. Her travels reflect her commitment to maintaining strong US global leadership for the benefit of American security and prosperity.
"The vice president continues to believe in a strong US global leadership role because it benefits the security and prosperity of the American people, and she will reaffirm this throughout her trip," Lieberman said.
