Kamala Harris Cancels Election Day Speech As Donald Trump Nears Victory

As early poll projections for the U.S. presidential election emerge, Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris has opted to delay her public remarks until Wednesday. Campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond informed supporters that Harris will return to speak both to her supporters and to the nation after more votes are counted.

In his address, Richmond emphasized that key states are still tabulating ballots, and the campaign remains committed to ensuring that "every vote is counted." Richmond reaffirmed that Harris will speak on the following day, as the campaign closely monitors outstanding results.

The announcement follows projections from CNN indicating that former President Donald Trump is anticipated to win two critical battlegrounds, North Carolina and Georgia, drawing him nearer to the 270 electoral votes required for victory. North Carolina's win contributes 16 electoral votes, strengthening Trump's path to a possible White House return.

Additionally, Republicans celebrated significant Senate victories on Tuesday, flipping Democratic-held seats and securing control of the Senate for the first time in four years. A decisive GOP win came in Nebraska, where incumbent Senator Deb Fischer successfully held off a challenge from independent candidate Dan Osborn. Republicans also claimed a seat in West Virginia, with Governor Jim Justice winning the seat vacated by retiring Democrat Joe Manchin, extending the GOP's Senate majority further.

The latest projections and Senate shifts indicate tight races in both the presidential and congressional arenas, with both parties vying intensely as the final counts trickle in.

Meanwhile, Trump is expected to deliver his speech to the Florida Convention Centre in Palm Beach around 1 am.
